Jose Avila
Jose Avila’s practice focuses on advising clients in a variety of corporate, finance, and M&A matters, particularly in connection with cross-border transactions. Jose has extensive experience representing lenders and sponsors in project finance transactions related to the development and construction of infrastructure and energy projects throughout Latin America. He also assists domestic and international clients in connection with the acquisition and disposition of renewable and conventional energy projects.
Jose routinely assists start-ups with corporate formation, operational structuring and with establishing their core suite of commercial documents, including service agreements, sales agreements, joint venture agreements, technology contracts, vendor agreements and subcontracting arrangements.
Relying on his extensive knowledge of a wide-range of commercial transactions, Jose has advocated on behalf of companies in a variety of dispute resolution proceedings. He has substantial experience counseling litigants in international investor-state and commercial arbitration proceedings (in English and Spanish) under the auspices of the ICDR, ICSID and ICC in connection with disputes arising from cross-border energy, infrastructure, M&A and other commercial transactions.
Jose is a graduate of Harvard Law School and has over a decade of experience counseling international and domestic clients. Prior to founding OMLaw, Jose worked at some of the nation’s premier law firms in New York City, Chicago and Miami. He also served as an in-house counsel for a leading multinational payments company.
